Why Smart Managers Should Insist on—and Maximize Revenue from—Large Meter Testing
This article points out the importance to utilities of testing their large water meters since a significant portion of a utility's revenue is dependent on its larger meters. The article gives two examples of the effectiveness of a testing program. The Morristown Utility Commission in Morristown, Tennessee, saw a 12% jump in revenue after implementing a testing program for 50 large meters that account for 70% of the commission's revenue. The Cherokee County Water & Sewerage Authority in Georgia credits its large meter testing program as the primary driver for operating more accurate large meters and for decreasing the rate of water loss from 22% to 9%. The article includes an insert on the nuts and bolts of setting up a large meter testing program.
