Engineering Properties of Cement Treated Clay with Tire Chips: Visualization using micro‐focus X‐ray CT scanner
The objective of this study is to evaluate both the failure and permeability properties of cement treated clay with tire chips using micro‐focus X‐ray CT scanner. The specimens used in this study were cement treated clay both with and without tire chips. In this paper, the failure mechanism under unconfined compression was discussed from macroscopic to microscopic observations of the specimens with X‐ray CT data. And then, a series of permeability tests using a triaxial apparatus was also performed during the process of unconfined compression. The experimental results showed that crack development characteristics will be changed by adding tire chips to cement treated clay and it causes the improvement of ductility in unconfined compression and maintaining low permeability.
