How can the planning system and building control help determine a more coordinated approach to creating a more sustainable built environment? The planning system needs reforming and to be integrated with the enforcement of building regulations through building control. This should be the mainstay of sustainable development of the built environment, getting it right from the outset of any development proposal. Greater communication and understanding of the key issues is essential between elected community representatives and the professionals tasked with putting policy into practice.
