The Calcium Carbonate Ion‐Pair as a Limit to Hardness Removal
The calcium carbonate ion‐pair is demonstrated to be the major component of hardness in aqueous solutions at high pH valves. Hardness due to calcium carbonate ion‐pairs cannot be removed with conventional lime‐soda ash water softening operations. This article considers the importance of ion‐pairs in water softening.
