Types of Emergencies and Disasters, and Related Hazards
Safety Officers must be prepared to assess hazards that responders face, and to do so, they must have a good understanding of the types of emergencies that are covered in All Hazards preparedness plans. This includes chemical hazards that can result from a hazardous materials release, building collapse, or a natural hazard such as a volcanic eruption. Severe weather can create both heat and colds stress hazards for responders, and physical damage to infrastructure. Building damage can occur as a result of storms, earthquakes, landslides, and flooding.
