The first fundamental engineering science disciplines: theory of structures and applied mechanics
The introduction to the scientific and epistemological fundamentals of engineering and the engineering sciences in general as well as theory of structures and applied mechanics in particular are followed by five historical case studies. They show how the encyclopaedic was subsumed in the system of the classical engineering sciences. It thus becomes clear to the reader that the history of construction is also a history of its representation in publications. The history of construction can therefore be understood as a history of publications about construction.
