Networking and Collaboration: The Keys to Success in Grant Funding for Water Sector Preparedness
Recognized as a critical infrastructure, the water sector is eligible for a portion of the $1.7 billion that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be allocating in fiscal year (FY) 2006 under Homeland Security Grant Programs (HSGP). These grants will enhance the nation's ability to prepare for and respond to malevolent, accidental, or natural events. Utilities of all sizes can be successful in obtaining federal grant dollars following a stepwise collaborative approach. This article presents a case study of a successful collaboration, along with steps for obtaining grant funding.
