Scale Inhibitors for Cooling Towers and Industrial Circulating Systems
The development of scale inhibitors in the cooling system with low solubility from a liquid solution is very essential. Scale deposition may develop on the surface, and it will thicken over time until some type of interference has occurred. The scaling phenomenon in industry may result in technical issues including decreased heat transfer efficacy in cooling industrial systems and clogging in pipes. A strategy frequently used to control the deposition of scale is using chemicals that function as antiscalants. However, the process of eutrophication also involves inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus molecules. As a result, it is critical to develop alternate solutions, such as green scale inhibitors. In the past 10 years, the literature has reported on several novel scale inhibitors that are more environmentally friendly than traditional inhibitors. Recently, novel green antiscalants made from plant extracts have also been employed. This chapter's objective is to summarize several synthetic production processes for various scale inhibitors.
