CRC: Precast Applications of UHPFRC
Compact reinforced composite (CRC) is typically used with a combination of steel fibers and conventional rebars. Hi‐Con, a Danish precast producer who started production of CRC in 2001, has been one of the main drivers in developing new applications for ultra high performance fiber‐reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) together with CRC Technology, a supplier of a special cement for UHPFRC. A few examples of applications are shown and future prospects – new applications and new markets – are discussed in the chapter. For the first few applications rather extensive documentation had to be provided for the authorities, but as CRC has now been used on a number of projects, a simple overview of properties is usually sufficient to establish the background for the design calculations. International guidelines and recommendations for using UHPFRC are currently being prepared by the fib TG 8.6.
