New evaluators addressing health disparities through community‐based evaluation
The author explores challenges in assessing health issues among ethnic and racially diverse populations, especially those related to a lack of long‐standing relationships with community leaders, knowledge about the community and its needs, and sufficient funding to maintain lasting engagement within the communities of interest. One of the overarching goals of Healthy People 2010, to eliminate health disparities in the United States, has awarded much attention to the correlation between race/ethnicity and persistent and increasing health disparities among U.S. populations. Approaches for implementing and evaluating health interventions designed to address these disparities must be community based in order to identify feasible strategies for improving processes and outcomes among populations of interest. © Wiley Periodicals, Inc., and the American Evaluation Association
