Homogenization and Yield Design of Masonry
This chapter considers a micro‐mechanical approach, i.e. on a scale of heterogeneities. By heterogeneity, mean blocks and joints that are very different in nature. It presents the principles of modeling through yield design coupled with homogenization of periodic regular masonry blocks, as established by De Buhan and De Felice. The chapter focuses on the kinematic approach from the outside is used. It shows the potential of the model by in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the stability of masonry structures in 2D. This model is relatively new and it can be further developed and extended to more complex cases. The methods developed in the chapter, and more generally throughout this book may be adapted to numerical analysis in order to extend the application to complex geometries that may describe all practical cases.
