The information that a contractor would be sub‐contracting brickwork was greeted with horror. Many architects tell that it is often vital that they have intensive discussions with proposed specialist sub‐contractors in order to be sure that the sub‐contractor knows exactly what is required. It is common for architects to receive so‐called 'shop drawings' from contractors with a request that the architect checks or approves them. It matters not that the employer has problems with the supplier. All that matters is that, by taking charge of supply, the employer has undertaken to supply the items in accordance with whatever programme the contractor prepares.
