Regulations for Aluminum in Drinking Water
Aluminum (Al) compounds are used in many applications, including as a coagulant for water treatment. Al is also a well‐established neurotoxin. Epidemiological studies indicating a potential link between Al and adverse neurological effects have generated controversy as to whether a drinking water standard for Al is needed. This article discusses regulatory values for Al in drinking water and the differences in opinion of regulatory agencies regarding the regulation of Al.
