Effects of Highly Mineralized Water on Household Plumbing and Appliances
This study presents the estimated effects of total mineral content on service lives and the annual costs thereof, for items of household plumbing and appliances. Field investigation in 38 communities indicates that service life reductions may range from as much as 70 per cent for toilet flushing mechanisms to 30 per cent for washing equipment, the result of using water of 1,750 ppm compared with water of 250 ppm total dissolved solids.
