Denver's Foothills project: energy efficiency in action
Denver's new Foothills water treatment plant complex not only takes advantage of every possible energy conservation measure but will also generate surplus electricity for resale to the local electric utility. The plant is located at an elevation between that of the Strontia Springs diversion dam and that of the Denver metropolitan area, thus providing sufficient head to operate a hydroturbine at the treatment plant and to supply most of the city's distribution system by gravity.
