Respiratory Protection
The requirements of OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) are reviewed as well as NFPA and ANSI standards. The classifications of respirator types are reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of air‐purifying respirators, supplied air (airline) respirators, and self‐contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) are discussed in the selection process. Special considerations for using respirators in confined spaces including emergency breathing procedures and reduced‐profile entries are described. The OSHA‐approved face‐piece fit testing procedures are described. The care, maintenance, and storage of respirators are outlined.
