The WaterISAC—One Year Later
This article describes WaterISAC, designed as both a secure, Web‐based environment for early warning of potential physical contamination and cyber threats, and a source of sound information and shared ideas for protecting consumers and the environment. Developed by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) under the guidance of drinking water and wastewater system managers and associations, with partial funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Congress, the WaterISAC (Information and Sharing Analysis Centers) responds to Presidential Decision Directives and Executive Orders that designate the water sector as critical to the nation's well‐being and that call for the establishment of ISACs to promote the flow of security information. WaterISAC is the only centralized resource that gathers, analyzes, and disseminates threat information specific to the water community. This article reports on new developments at WaterISAC that include: contaminant databases; new search engines and documents; broad‐based, limited distribution information; database of WaterISAC notifications; revised form for reporting an incident; and, database of emergency contacts.
