Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
Circulation paths, accessible routes, and paths of travel in new and existing projects are essential to understand in order to provide for accessible design. If one can not get to an area or an element, no matter how accessible that portion is, it will still not be accessible. Not only is the route or path itself required to be accessible, but there are a variety of other requirements that do need to be addressed. We will look at a broad view of these components and their specific requirements. This includes an understanding of walking surfaces and clear floor space requirements as well as how much space it takes to maneuver around an object. Protruding objects and required clearances are also considerations, as well as different requirements for doors, entries, and windows. Note that paths of travel are being addressed in terms of ADA requirements rather than the IBC egress requirements.
