New Technology Advances Bioremediation of Chlorinated Contaminants
This article discusses a new low‐cost, enhanced distribution, staged hydrogen‐release technology called 3‐D Microemulsion? (3DMe) that has advanced the state‐of‐the‐art for in situ soil and groundwater treatment of chlorinated contaminants. The article discusses subsurface distribution, controlled by hydrophile‐lipophile balance (HLB), along with developing a new chemical structure with a balanced HLB (7) ‐ one that has tendencies to both adsorb and dissolve under specific conditions, producing micelles that are spherical molecular aggregations (about 0.01‐0.05 μm) that have a unique ability to disburse throughout the saturated zone. The benefit of a lower installation cost is also discussed.
