Smart Meters and User Engagement in the Leaf House
This chapter provides an insight into user engagement in smart metering applications. Smart metering systems add more information than conventional meters and offer many advantages such as cost effectiveness, accuracy and interactivity with users. User engagement and acceptance is a critical factor for the successful roll‐out of smart meters. This chapter provides an insight into user perceptions on the smart metering services of the Leaf house, which is the first carbon neutral Italian house. Demographics, socioeconomics determines the basic socio‐demographic and socio‐economic characteristics of the sample such as: gender, average age, household size, income, and education. The user interface of the monitoring system could be improved to provide information about energy consumption and customized options for the everyday user. Smart grids are a key feature of energy performance, with the goal of better aligning energy generation and demand.
