Calculation of Simply Supported Composite Beam According to the Elastic Resistance of the Cross‐Section
The purpose of this chapter is to design the simply supported composite beam according to the elastic‐elastic procedure. One of the essential features of the chapter is to illustrate the determination of the effective flexural stiffness EIL by two procedures that are used in practice. The first procedure is the direct determination of the effective flexural stiffness, while the second is based on the modular ratio nL. The procedure for determining the resistance of the composite section due to the vertical shear force, taking into account the verification of stress in the concrete slab, is also shown in the chapter. The effective flexural stiffness of composite section EIL depends on the type of loadings, creep and shrinkage. The stress limitations for calculating the elastic resistance to bending using the effective cross‐section are recommended in clause 6.2.1.5, EN 1994‐1‐1.
