Improving Utility Succession and Workforce Development Planning
Beginning in late 2018, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's Engineering Services Group reassessed its programs to help address high turnover resulting from retirements.
Engineering Services’ 2019 plan includes skills‐based and diversity‐enhancing programs to provide on‐the‐job training opportunities and augment professional development.
Though roughly 25% of Engineering Services staff will likely be replaced over the next five years, the implementation of programs to attract, retain, and provide ongoing training for employees will help ensure a diverse and flexible workforce.
