This paper discusses the principles of corrosion and methods of control. The article provides suggestions for conducting a complete corrosion survey of water mains prior to start of construction. This makes it possible to incorporate the most efficient corrosion control design without any need for physical changes in the water main, which might be necessary if corrosion control is engineered after the water main is built.
