To deal with problems such as stability of installations exposed to water, design of catching constructions, preliminary estimate of drainage flows, impact of catchments works, and long‐term evolution of a catchment, in situ water tests are carried out. Punctual water tests include single or double ring infiltrometer tests, the Lefranc permeability test, and drilling permeameter test. The drilling permeameter test involves injecting water into the cavity from a section of the borehole. Pumping or transmission tests involve pumping water into a borehole to determine the permeability coefficient of a layer of soil by measuring the extracted flow in the permanent rate, or the evolution of the water level as a function of time in the transitory rate. The level of the water table is monitored by the piezometers far from the boring to measure its drawdown level.
