Multi‐Programmatic Urbanity for Indonesia
Indonesia is highly diverse in many aspects. As a founder of URBANE, a successful architecture and urban design practice in Bandung, he launched among others a ‘one village one playground’ programme, pedestrianisation of major roads, and most interestingly the revitalisation of large and small urban parks under his programme ‘thematic parks’. Now, as the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil is extending his public space programme for Bandung to many other spots in West Java, directed towards openness between the city and citizens, and taking into consideration residents’ aspirations in its agenda and budget plan. Ridwan Kamil – back then newly elected mayor – started to plan Taman Film (Film Park) as one part of a linear chain of smaller, connected public spaces underneath Jalan Pasupati and the Pasupati bridge. Alun‐Alun Cicendo has been envisioned by us since the beginning as a multi‐programmatic public space featuring open air sculptures.
