UHPFRC Waffle Deck Concept for a Bridge at Livron‐Loriol
The ultra high performance fiber‐reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) waffle slab solution for composite bridge decks has been made available through a generic design study followed by numerous large‐scale tests for validation. The possible application of this waffle deck concept was studied for a bridge to be erected on the bypass highway around Livron and Loriol townships in South‐Eastern France, demonstrating remarkable technical efficiency. This chapter discusses the result of works carried out within the frame of Mikti National research and development project, concerning the design study of a long span steel‐concrete composite twin‐girder bridge deck and the associated validation experimental program performed at LCPC Structures Laboratory (Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chausées). During the design study of a rather typical bridge, an alternative applying UHPFRC was made possible thanks to the research results, and can be considered as relevant due to constraints of the bridge project studied for the Livron‐Loriol bypass.
