In this article, the author expresses his views on the meaning and significance of the term “good science” and examines the need for objectivity when considering the science underlying drinking water regulations. The author also recommends two books for water utility managers: the first recounts groundwater contamination problems in Woburn, Massachusetts that allegedly led to several cases of childhood cancer; the second focuses on endocrine disruption by synthetic chemicals in the environment.
