Strength of 3‐D Sic\Sic Composite After Long Term Exposure to Elevated Temperature
In order to investigate effects of time and temperature on mechanical properties and fracture mechanism of 3‐D woven ceramic matrix composite with a glass sealant, SiC\SiC, 4‐point bending tests were performed after long term exposures to elevated temperatures. Specimens were machined from Tyranno ZMI fiber and PIP processed SiC matrix CMC, and long term exposure was conducted in temperature range from 1100C to 1500C and maximum 6000‐hours. During 4‐point bending tests, load, strain and acoustic emission were all measured. Comparing two different preform CMCs, effect of woven fabric structure on bending strength was also investigated.
