Water Resource Problems in Michigan
Despite the abundant water resources in the state of Michigan, a wide range of problems plague the Michigan water industry, many of which stem from lack of consideration and foresight or from public reluctance to come to grips with the issues. Michigan has problems of low streamflow and floods, pollution and water rights, drainage and erosion, and salt water problems. Possibly its greatest water resources problem, however, is the failure of the public to recognize signs of trouble and to take action in a timely manner. This article discusses the importance of convincing the public first that something should be done, and second, that the right thing should be done at the right time.
