Hydrologic Role of the Great Swamp and Other Marshland in Upper Passaic River Basin
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Conservation and Economic Development, Division of Water Policy and Supply, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has been studying the hydrologic regimen of the Passaic River and the effects of the swampland on the streamflow. This paper presents in brief some of the results of this study and describes in a general way the effects the swamplands have on the flow of the river. Data for the Great Swamp are used to illustrate the several factors influencing the discharge of the Passaic River.
