This month, we begin a new feature series, Spotlight On … . I have noted over the years that the Journal has reduced its use of photographs to illustrate articles. Coupling that with a growing interest in water history, I decided that we needed a showcase for the beautiful water facilities in North America. Also, I have to admit that living with an art historian for almost 50 years has profoundly influenced my visual perception. Thus was born Spotlight On … . In the coming months, a water treatment plant, water tower, or other water facility will be highlighted in each article of this ongoing feature series. Water facilities will be selected for this series on the basis of historical importance, architectural excellence, and technological significance. Water facilities that have achieved awards or AWWA Water Landmark status will be included. Send your ideas for facilities that you'd like to see covered to me at journaleditor@awwa.org.
