Field Testing of Vertical Turbine Pumps: Committee Report
This article presents a committee report by ASA Committee B58.1, Vertical Turbine Pumps, that discusses field testing procedures of the pumps covered in AWWA Standard A101. A field test indicates the operation of the pump bowl assembly, the friction loss in the column pipe and discharge elbow, the bearing losses in the line shaft assembly or the cable loss on a submersible pump, the well characteristics, the air content or sand content of the water, the vibration and noise level, and the operation of the driver and control equipment. The purpose of this test standard is to set up a guide for the quantitative evaluation of the hydraulic performance of the complete pumping unit as installed in the field.
