One Water: The Need for More Holistic Thinking, Analysis, and Policymaking in Water
Most of us in the water industry, and beyond, have tended to instinctively talk about different “kinds” of water ‐ drinking water or wastewater, groundwater versus surface water, seawater versus freshwater, rainwater, stormwater, and so on. This is how most of us in the premillennial generation have been brought up and been trained to think: that different kinds of water require different analytical approaches; different types of expertise and educational background; and different intellectual, policy, legal, or technological solutions. Over the past few years, there has been a dawning realization that this type of thinking is no longer sufficient for the times; it is no longer an appropriate lens through which to view the industry.
