Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
The Holy Grails of public data sources are vendor‐neutral, platform‐agnostic, easy‐to‐access clearinghouses to capture, gather, and disseminate data. Open data is data that can be freely used, reused, and redistributed by anyone‐subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and share alike. Data gathering is not always easy, and even when it is, the process of collecting data can be tedious and time‐consuming. This is as true when gathering data for design as it is when mining project data to help improve construction workflows. Tedious data‐gathering capacities and practices inhibit teams from developing integrated approaches to business processes like estimating, sequencing, or facilities management. This chapter presents case studies: interviews with Ryan Mullenix, a design partner at NBBJ; Sam Miller, a partner at LMN Architects; and Gregory Janks, a principal at Sasaki Associates. They answer several questions pertaining to data‐driven design approach to work.
