Application of Electrospun Materials in Packaging Industry
The packaging industry has through technological revolutions from glass that was utilized in ancient Egypt; mulberry bark by the Chinese to tin, paper, and currently polymers. The nanotechnology boom has created new avenues and revolutionized the food packaging industry through the utilization of electrospun nanofibrous materials. In this chapter, the development of the packaging industry specifically food packaging is discussed, the science of electrospinning and parameters that influence the process is presented and thereafter, electrospun materials in the food packaging industry and their application thereof is discussed.
