Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
London's infrastructure base has been radically upgraded since 1991. This chapter reviews how problems of strained capacity were eased by a generation of rail, bus and Underground projects, as well as by incremental expansions of airports and other logistical systems. London's transport bodies innovated to partner with private companies to part‐fund items of infrastructure, and the consolidation of powers under Transport for London after 2000 paved the way for a more fruitful programme of investment. The chapter also explains the protracted nature of many key projects, the precarious financing of several smaller ventures, and the lack until very recently of an integrated vision for the whole system of London's infrastructure.
