Traffic Simulation Methods
Monte Carlo simulation is used in mathematical optimization and integration, and in generating probability distributions. Monte Carlo simulation gives answers also in several areas of elevator traffic problems, such as queuing theory and waiting times, elevator design or the average number of probable stops generated of passenger origin–destination matrix. In a new building, the passenger traffic estimation is based on building drawings. In vertical traffic simulator, usually the traffic of one elevator group is simulated. The rapid development of microprocessor technology has enabled elevator traffic simulation in personal computers. Elevator group simulators can include different control systems. Building traffic simulator models all building floors, and the vertical passenger traffic using different transportation devices, such as elevators, escalators and stairs. In a people flow simulator, both vertical and horizontal people flow in a virtual building is simulated.
