We live in an interesting world when an issue of a water journal that is devoted to business factors has theme articles on water efficiency, supply uncertainty, climate change, and total water solutions. However, that is the reality we face. In fact, during the planning for this year's editorial calendar, June was labeled as the month to tackle business and sustainability issues. Without sustainability there is no business in our future. There are four mega‐trends in the water utility business landscape: the need for diverse water supplies, significant reductions in water use, a desperate need for infrastructure replacement, and dramatic changes in rate structures.
