As a main source of primary energy on Earth, the sun's irradiance is examined in detail. Different calculation strategies for irradiance and temperature time series generation from worldwide monthly mean value data bases provide an insight into the complex consideration necessary for accurately determining irradiance effects on buildings including shading. Furthermore, the geothermal resource is introduced, as an alternative source of primary energy.
