Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
The focus of this chapter differs from the emphasis of the more design‐related aspects of sustainable construction in Chapters 3 and 4, and turns instead to the site‐based processes that enable the construction process to contribute to a successful sustainable building. Many design‐related aspects of sustainable buildings rely on the skill of site operatives, preplanning of site managers, and good supervision of gangers and other site foremen. The well‐thought‐through sustainable design can be badly let down by poor site processes, whilst a contractor who is informed, experienced, and understands what the client and designer want from a project can further improve the sustainable nature of any building. This chapter highlights those site‐related processes and issues that will make that difference, helping the construction process to be just as sustainable as any building design. Site‐based aspects include energy use, noise, dust, water use, maintaining or improving biodiversity, minimising pollution, and looking after the soil. Site‐related materials issues are investigated, including the site‐based as opposed to the design‐based issues connected with recycling and reusing (described in Chapter 4).
