Management's Responsibility for Safety
This article provides an overview of the historical development of the industrial safety movement in the United States in order to explain the underlying concepts of management's moral, legal, and economic responsibility for safety. The article reviews some of the provisions of the California Workmen's Compensation and Safety Laws that emphasize management's responsibility for accident prevention. In addition, seven basic elements of safety are outlined. These should be helpful to management in carrying out its responsibility for safety. The particular aspect of safety presented in this article is management's responsibilities for industrial accident prevention.
