Water Hammer Control in Los Angeles Distribution Pumping Plants
This article begins by providing a brief overview of how to determine whether a surge problem exists. If surge control is necessary, the article discusses several methods: for normal starting and stopping surges, the pump bypass system is used; for normal starting and stopping plus pressure regulation or water level control, the automatic valve in the discharge line is used; for power failure control, a surge chamber is used when the size will not be too great; and, for power failure protection when a surge chamber cannot be installed, the anticipator type of valve is used.
