Good Practices and Levers of Action
This chapter considers a debate on urban forms, and explores the underlying question of the debate: are there urban forms that make the city and its development more sustainable, and in particular, less energy consuming than the others? If urban metrics have a significant impact on per capita energy consumption, in particular because of travel distances, the influence of urban forms with comparable urban metrics is much more difficult to detect. It is important to recall the systemic nature of a town: this implies that a lever of action can hardly be isolated as such, and that its effectiveness can vary depending on the context and/or the manner in which it is solicited. The chapter presents the results of a simulation that enabled readers to estimate, in the case of the Ile‐de‐France region, the respective orders of magnitude of effects associated with different levers of action.
