Quest for solutions
With the Kyoto protocol and the recent Paris COP21 Agreement in place, all nations are looking for solutions that can resolve not only their own environmental problems but also the global challenge of climate change. To explore the capacity of megacities for addressing climate change, the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) was formed, and it works as a network of the world's megacities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A partnership with the building industry can be a viable option to provide the necessary resources for driving the green movement. In most urbanised Asian cities, buildings constitute 60‐70% of total energy end use and approximately 90% of electricity consumption. Energy saving opportunities is huge on the energy efficiency of buildings. More regional cooperation on trade would benefit technology and information transfer and investments in green technologies and may create risks to the environment due to resource extraction and greater movement of goods and services.
