Improving Adsorption Techniques: An International Effort
A problem of special concern to many nations is the organic chemical contamination of drinking water resulting from industrial sewage discharges, urban and agricultural runoffs, degradation of natural organic materials, and perhaps primarily from the reaction of those substances with disinfectants during the treatment process. Adsorption techniques are discussed. Background is given on the Drinking Water Pilot Project that is part of the NATO Committee on Challenges of Modern Society (CCMS) started in 1977. Two international conferences on advanced treatment technology are discussed. The key organizers for these German (1978) and Reston, Virginia (1979) Conferences were Heinrich Sontheimer and Wolfgang Kuhn.
