The new ISO 8100‐32:2020 standard gives guidelines on how to select elevators in offices, hotels and residential buildings. One goal of ISO 8100‐32 was to develop a simple and quick standard for selecting passenger elevators in other types of buildings than residential, and to present the state‐of‐the‐art method in elevator selection. Complex cases include asymmetric elevator groups where the elevators can serve different floors, groups with transfer floors and traffic from many entrance floors. The up‐peak calculation method is already used in elevator planning with conventional control in ISO 4190‐6. The ISO simulation procedure starts with an initial guess for an elevator arrangement obtained from, example, the calculation method or building layout drawings. Saturation demand reveals the handling capacity of the elevator group, and being close to the required handling capacity prevents the elevator group from becoming oversized.
