Large Israeli Desal Plant Begins Operation
This article describes one of the world's largest desalination plants, located in Ashkelon, Israel, which has begun providing and selling 165,000 m3/d of treated water to supplement and upgrade the existing potable water supply for the surrounding region. The plant, which was begun in April 2003, relies on FILMTEC? membrane technology from The Dow Chemical Co. for the plant's demanding seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) process. The Ashkelon plant is part of a desalination master plan launched by Israel in 2002 to help address the country's chronic water resource problems.
