Working with Phasing, Groups, and Design Options
This chapter focuses on phasing, groups, and design options, respectively in Autodesk ® Revit® software and offers guidance to users on how to use the phasing tools to create, demolish, and propose a new design, understand and use groups, and create and use design options. Phases are most useful for doing the kinds of tasks that require users to show when elements are being introduced into their design, such as showing demolition and new construction in an existing building or showing different drawing packages as examples. The default phase filter shows all the model elements relative to the phase assigned to the view and will override their graphics based on their Phase Created and Phase Demolished parameters. It also gives users a sense of all the elements as they exist in time. Saving groups is a simple matter of right‐clicking the group name in users’ Project Browser and selecting Save Group. The top constraints of walls are commonly attached to levels or other hosts such as floors and roofs, but these relationships should be avoided in groups. Revit software provides a unique set of tools for developing multiple design iterations in the confines of a single‐model environment. Users can use these tools to explore alternative designs without the need to save multiple independent versions of their model as they move in different directions.
