What are the most pressing needs and most promising directions for future research on drinking water? The question was the focus of the following discussion held at the 1978 Water Quality Technology Conference in Louisville, Ky. Led by Elroy F. Spitzer, director of the AWWA Research Foundation, the participants were E. Robert Baumann, Marston distinguished professor of engineering and professor of civil engineering at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa; Paul D. Foley, research coordinator, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Toronto, Ont.; Garrett P. Sloan, director, Miami Dade Water and Sewer Authority, Miami, Fla.; and Michael J. Taras, project engineer, AWWA Research Foundation, Denver, Colo.
