Drawing the Thickness of an Environment, Drawing the Thickness of Architecture
This chapter aims to detail the consequences of the experience of a group of students on a canonical problem of architecture: that of representation and so‐called “technical” drawing. It is a form of engagement in the experience of a territory in struggle: the Zone To Defend (ZAD) of Notre‐Dame‐des‐Landes. The project for surveying the cabins and their environment was organized in two stages: meeting and living. It was first necessary to present the idea to the ZAD members throughout several meetings. The goal was to work with surveys in order to accurately represent the constructions carried out in the ZAD within their environment. While the drawings of the houses in the ZAD do not directly belong to the same register (they are not mere cut‐sections across the entire bocage of Notre‐Dame‐des‐Landes), the intention to develop a type of representation which is both architectural and ecosystemic is nonetheless present.
